Title: From average yields to event-by-event probability: a comprehensive journey through strangeness production with ALICE

Abstract:
Over the past 15 years, the ALICE Collaboration has established strangeness enhancement as a key observable in hadronic and nuclear collisions. Strange-hadron-to-pion yield ratios, measured as a function of charged-particle multiplicity at midrapidity, show a smooth evolution across collision systems and energies, indicating a strong connection between strange-hadron production and the final-state event activity. In this talk, an overview of the latest ALICE results on strangeness enhancement will be presented, including recent OO measurements, which probe an intermediate-size system between pp and Pb–Pb collisions. Particular emphasis will be given to the first ALICE measurement of the probability distribution of producing a given number of strange particles P(nS) of the same species per event in pp collisions. This novel observable extends the study of strangeness production beyond average yields and provides enhanced sensitivity to its microscopic mechanisms.
