Invited Lecturers

  • Phil Armitage (Colorado)
  • Anders Johansen (Lund)
  • Jack Lissauer (NASA - Ames)
  • Richard Nelson (Queen Mary)
  • Hilke Schlichting (MIT)

School Topics

  • The physics and chemistry of protoplanetary disks
  • Dust evolution and planetesimal formation
  • Formation of terrestrial and gas-giant planets
  • Planet-disk interactions and planetary migration
  • Young stellar objects from an observational point of view

School Aims and Format

The school will cover basic observational and theoretical aspects of protoplanetary disks and planet formation. Both these subjects currently have an extremely high international profile. The topics of the lectures are detailed in the preliminary program outlined below, which furthermore includes complementary exercises and tutorials.

School Goals

  • Introduce the students to the fundamental theoretical concepts and current observational constraints in the field of protoplanetary disks and planet formation.

  • Bring together students interested in these subjects with some of the world's experts in an environment fostering interactions and exchange of ideas, allowing the students to develop their international network.

  • Encourage the students to continue working in these fields, emphasizing the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to research in these active areas.

European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System

All the students attending the lectures and actively participating in the exercise tutorials will earn a minimum of 2.5 ECTS points.

Financial Assistance

Accommodation at a nearby hotel will be arranged and paid for by the organizers. Some limited financial assistant for travel expenses will be available. Please make sure you fill all the requested fields in the application forms in order to be fully considered for this.
