General information

The street address of the conference hotel (Comwell Copenhagen Portside) is: Alexandriagade 1, DK-2150 Nordhavn (Copenhagen). Nordhavn is a rather new city neighborhood in the North of Copenhagen.

The street address of the conference venue (Novo Nordisk Foundation Headquarters) is: Tuborg Havnevej 19, DK-2900 Hellerup. Hellerup is a northern suburb of Copenhagen.

You can plan your trip with the metro or other types of public transport, including regional and long-distance trains, using the rejseplanen website or app.

If you plan on using poublic transport often, even if you only stay for a few days, it pays off and is extremely convenient to buy an electronic fare card for DKK 80 and load it up with maybe DKK 100-150. You can then simply check in and out at the blue shiny check-in posts (check in every time you board or change a train or bus but only check out at the very end of your trip). The electronic fare card you want is called Rejsekort Anonymous and is being sold at every metro or S-train station at silver terminals at which you can pay with all major credit cards. Fares are much lower using the electronic fare card (it makes sense already if you use it six or more times), and you do not have to worry about buying tickets in an app or using cash. We will gladly reimbruse speakers for such a card if they keep the receipts.

Getting from the airport to the hotel

The fastest way to get from the airport to the conference hotel is by metro.

From the airport, take the Metro M2 (it is the only metro line running at the airport, and there is no need to worry about the direction the metro is headed in, as the airport stop is a terminus). When leaving the baggage claim area in the airport go straight through the terminal building (ignore the masses of people heading right towards the regular trains), up the escalator, and you are there after a ca. 70 m walk along a corridor/bridge.

You will need a three-zone single ticket for adults (enkeltbillet voksen 3 zoner) for DKK 30  (ticket machines are right in front of the metro entrance). The tickets you buy at the (red) machines do not have to be validated at the blue shiny check-in posts (these are only for electronic fare cards).

Get off the metro at Kongens Nytorv station. Do not exit the station but follow the signs to the Metro M4. Get on the Metro M4, in the direction Orientkaj. Get off at the end stop, which is Orientkaj station. Go down the stairs or elevator, exit the station, and look away from the pier. Towards the right hand side you should see the street Alexandriagade and the hotel is just down that street on the right. It says “Comwell” on the side of the building.

Please note that Google Street View is not very helpful as it still has photographs taken during the construction of this new city neighborhood “Nordhavn”.

Speakers are also welcome to take a taxi. Please keep the receipt so that we can reimburse you.

Getting from the central train station to the hotel

The fastest way to get from the central station to the conference hotel is by metro.

You will need a one-zone single ticket (enkeltbillet) for DKK 24. The tickets you buy at the (red) machines do not have to be validated at the blue shiny check-in posts (these are only for electronic fare cards).

Follow the signs to the M4 line. Take it in the direction of Orientkaj. Get off at the end stop, which is Orientkaj station. Go down the stairs or elevator, exit the station, and look away from the pier. Towards the right hand side you should see the street Alexandriagade and the hotel is just down that street on the right. It says “Comwell” on the side of the building.

Getting from the hotel to the conference venue

All conference activities take place at Novo Nordisk Foundation headquarters located on Tuborg Havnevej 19, 2900 Hellerup

There are three recommended ways to get from hotel Comwell Copenhagen Portside to the conference venue: walking, bus, and taxi.

Walking

Walking takes around 40 minutes. Exit the hotel and turn right. Walk down to the intersection. Take a left and continue on the winding Sundkrogsgade for ca. 500 m (see photo)

Turn right on the main road, the O2 (see photo below).

Continue straight on the O2, you will pass the big redbrick building with three chimneys on your right (photo below).

Continue until you pass the harbor on the right. Continue along the waterfront (photo).

At the end of the promenade, you will find a pedestrian-and-bike path with some grass on both sides (photo).

Continue until you arrive at a roundabout (photo).

Take the second exit on Philip Heymans Alle. Walk for ca. 300 m. and take a right on Tuborg Havnevej (photo).

The conference venue is on the left hand side ca. 250 m, past the building called /The Cube/. It is a glass building with Novo Nordisk Fonden written in silver (photo).

There will be a guided walk on Monday 8am, Wednesday 12.45pm and Thursday 8.30am. The guide is Martin Speirs (photo). He will be standing in the lobby of the hotel ten minutes before departure, with a sign for the Centennial Conference.

Bus

A  fast and convenient way to get from the hotel to the conference venue is by bus 164.  Please note that you need a single-fare adult ticket for two zones (enkeltbillet voksen to zoner) for DKK 24 and that you either should buy it on the DOT app (App Store,Google Play) before boarding the bus or need to have cash at the correct amount to hand it to the bus driver.

You will take bus 164 towards Experimentarium station. The bus runs every 20 min. during the day, and every 30 min. after 3pm. The bus ride itself takes 9 minutes, so if all goes well, going by bus takes less than 20 minutes, but we suggest to plan for the trip to take up to 40 minutes to be on the safe side.

Exit the hotel and turn right. Walk down to the intersection. Cross over and turn left. You will see a temporary bus stop, with a yellow sign for bus number 164 (photo).

Take this bus in the direction Ballerup St. for 9 minutes until you get to Experimentarium station. The bus stops just across from Experimentarium (a big science center museum). Walk back ca. 20 m. in the direction that the bus came from and take a left on Tuborg Havnevej Walk for ca. 250 m. and the conference venue is on the left-hand side, past the building called /The Cube/. It is a glass building with Novo Nordisk Fonden written in silver (photo).

Taxi

The staff at Comwell can call a taxi for you. Just give them the address which is Tuborg Havnevej 19. If you are a speaker, please keep the receipt or use a taxibon if you have been handed one by the organizers.

Getting from the hotel to the Niels Bohr Institute and the Niels Bohr Archive

The Niels Bohr Archive (NBA) and Niels Bohr Institute (NBI) are both housed in the same buildings on Blegdamsvej 17, DK-2100 Copenhagen.

For the metro you will go to Orientkaj station (ca. 100 m. from the hotel) and take the M4 line to Østerport station (2 stops). Do not exit the station but follow the signs to the M3 line. Get on the M3, in the direction Nørrebro. Get off at Trianglen station (first stop). Exit the station. In the middle of the triangular plaza (hence the name Trianglen) you will see a domed brick pavilion with the letters B. T. on the roof. Walk down the boulevard Blegdamsvej, away from the pavilion.

From the station, it is a 450 m walk to the institute. On the right-hand side of Blegdamsvej, you will first pass the offices of the Red Cross, then a large square freemason building with an entrance flanked by two tall columns. The next building complex on the right is the Niels Bohr Institute, which consists of several buildings. Coming from Trianglen, the original institute building is the last building (Blegdamsvej 17). On its front, it has the inscription “Niels Bohr Institutet 1920.”

There are more ways to get to NBA/NBI, but this is the fastest (it takes 20 minutes), and the connection runs frequently during weekdays. You can also walk from the hotel which takes around 35 min or take a cab.
