N=4 super-Yang-Mills (SYM), the maximally supersymmetric theory in four dimensions, is famously integrable in the planar limit. This talk is devoted to the study of what is, arguably, the next simplest (=most symmetric) gauge theories after N=4 SYM, namely N=2 superconfomal gauge theories. We will give a broad overview as well as present the recent developments on the study of the spin chains encoding the spectral problem of four dimensional N=2 superconformal gauge theories. Novel hidden symmetries seem to govern their dynamics: a deformed version of the SU(4) R-symmetry of the mother N=4 theory. The naively broken symmetry generators (of the N=4 mother theory) are not lost but upgraded to generators acting with a non-trivial coproduct.
