The seventeenth of August 2027 is ten years since GW/GRB170817 and AT2017gfo — the first, and so far only, neutron-star merger observed in both gravitational waves and light. A single event tied short gamma-ray bursts to merging neutron stars, delivered the first standard-siren measurement of the Hubble constant, put the first observational bounds on the neutron-star equation of state, and showed the r-process in action. This conference is being held to celebrate this landmark event.
We will chart the current state of the field, the progress made since 2017, and what the next observing runs and facilities will bring, across many related areas, from gravitational waves, kilonovae and neutron-star mergers and the r-process through gamma-ray bursts and jets, to the stellar record and the early Solar System. We will also cover applications and outlook including cosmology, nuclear physics, and astrophysical populations, as well as the facilities of the next decade.
We hope to run the meeting without a significant registration fee.
