Practical information

Getting from the airport to the city centre/hotel: Take the Metro (follow the signs past the entrance to the trains). Get a 3-zoner ticket for 36 DKK from a vending machine (least crowded in the baggage hall or on the platform) or at the DSB counter. The closest stop (~6 min walk - see map) to the Wakeup Hotel is Kongens Nytorv. If you want to go directly to the workshop, carry on till Forum, then walk up the road to get Bus 3A from Rosenørns Allé and get off at Irmingersgade, right in front of NBI

Getting to NBIA: The Niels Bohr International Academy is part of the Niels Bohr Institute (Blegdamsvej 17, 2100 København Ø) - see directions on how to get there. From the Wakeup Hotel you can walk there in ~30 min - see map

Please ring the bell of the left-most building B - our administrator Anette Studsgård has her office in front of the door. During office hours you can also enter through the administrative building A across the courtyard and make your way around through the basement passage (beware of getting lost!)

Auditorium A is in building C in between - the door to it will be open when you arrive in the morning, and during lunch and tea/coffee breaks (hopefully it will be pleasant enough to sit outside).

Getting around: For metro & bus journeys, you can plan routes here and learn about different types of tickets here. For journeys within the city you need a 2-zoner ticket for DKK 24 - download 'Mobilbilletter Hovedstaden' from App Store or Google Play and buy tickets on the go (or from the bus driver with ~exact cash). Alternatively rent a bike.

Danish currency: You can get Danish ’Kroner’ (DKK 100 = £12.0 = €13.4 = $15.6) at a cash machine or bank at the airport, or at ATMs around the city. Shops & restaurants usually accept VISA and MasterCard (with chip/PIN).

Internet access etc: Wi-fi is available throughout NBI. If you do not have an Eduroam account, connect to “KU Guest” - then open a browser window and enter your details. You will receive a text with a password which will provide access.

There are desks & boards in Aud B adjacent to Aud A, and Aud C opposite, so discussions can be carried on there. If you want a quiet place to work try the Library reading rooms upstairs. You can also use a large communal office Bk2 (NBIA basement). If you need a private space (e.g. to skype) please ask our administrator. You are welcome to relax in the NBIA lounge (which has couches and an espresso machine ... also a blackboard).

Lunches & breaks: A buffet lunch will be served in Aud C opposite Aud A. If you have specified dietary restrictions, there will be a marked serving for you. Coffee, tea & cookies are also provided in this room during breaks.

Tour of Niels Bohr's Office: During the lunch break on Monday we have arranged a guided tour by Felicity Pors from the Niels Bohr Archive. Please note that only ~20 can go at one time.

Welcome reception: On Monday there will be beer & pizza in the NBIA lounge  (or outside if pleasant) when the afternoon session ends.

Excursion: On Wednesday we have arranged an excursion to the Louisiana Musuem of Modern Art on the coast 35 km north of Copenhagen. Apart from the indoors collection and special exhibitions, there are extensive gardens dotted with sculptures and a café overlooking the sea where a buffet lunch will be provided. A bus will pick you up from the Wakeup Hotel at 10:15 and drop you back there around 17:45. If you miss the bus you can take a train from Norreport to Humlebæk Station - it is a 10 min walk from there.

Workshop dinner: On Friday, an informal dinner will be held at Restaurant Salt (Tolbodgade 24, 1253 København K) starting at 19:00, It is a ~10 min walk from Wakeup Hotel - see map.
