Description
the course aims primarily at nuclear/particle or astro-particle physics PhD students, interested in learning about the state-of-the-art development in particle detection techniques. PhD students are brought together with internationally known and active researchers in the field, expert in detection techniques and involved in current research and development projects in future particle detectors for high energy particle physics.
The course is made of two parts - one week Oct 26-30 - in Copenhagen, and then one week - Nov 2-6 - in Helsinki , where laboratory facilities for detector building are available.
See Timetable and Material attached at the end of this web page.
Location of building M at NBI, for lectures in Copenhagen, can be seen here
http://www.nbi.dk/GuestDept/Map_of_NBI.html
The course consists of lectures from the experts in the field , complemented by laboratory exercises and by computing exercises. The PhD students will also acquire detailed knowledge about advanced simulation programs for particle physics detectors , and data acquisition software programs to be used for collected data in the lab.
The PhD students will acquire hands on experience with building and operating detectors for particle physics.
After the course, the PhD students will have a much deeper and wider knowledge of the field of particle detection.
